Privacy Policy
Cedar Assistant is designed to run AI models locally on your device using Ollama and, when enabled, Apple Intelligence. Your data stays on your device unless you deliberately choose to share it. This policy explains what information we do — and do not — collect.
Information We Do Not Collect
Cedar Assistant does not collect, store, transmit, or process any personal information on external servers. Your prompts, model outputs, settings, and usage data remain entirely on your device.
No analytics. No telemetry. No tracking. No remote logging. Nothing leaves your machine unless you send it somewhere.
Local Processing
On-device models: When using built-in models (like Gemma, Qwen, and IBM Granite), all processing happens directly on your device. No data leaves your phone or computer.
Ollama models: When using open-source models via Ollama, all inference happens on your hardware. Cedar Assistant simply communicates with the local Ollama server you run on your own machine.
Apple Intelligence features: When using Apple Intelligence features, processing is governed by Apple's privacy protections on your device. Cedar Assistant does not receive or transmit those queries.
Chat history: Your conversation history is saved only on your device. We do not store, access, or transmit your chat data.
Future iCloud storage: In the future, users will have the option to store their chats in their private iCloud storage, attached to their personal iCloud account. This will be completely optional and under your control.
Cloud API usage: When using cloud-based models (Google Gemini or OpenAI), the APIs we use are legally bound by their terms of service to not train on or retain the data sent to those services. Your prompts and responses are processed for that single conversation only and are not stored or used for training purposes.
Third‑Party Services
Cedar Assistant does not integrate with cloud services, third-party APIs, or analytics providers other than the APIs of Google and OpenAI to provide the functionality you see. If you choose to enable Apple Intelligence or use Apple-provided features, Apple's policies apply to that functionality.
Children's Privacy
Cedar Assistant does not collect any data, from children or adults. The app is not intended for children under 13.
Policy Updates
If this policy is updated, a revision history will be listed below showing all changes.
